The Iron County Search and Rescue Snow Team is a highly skilled group of volunteers who serve a critical role in ensuring safety during winter months in Iron County, Utah. Known for its vast wilderness, mountainous terrain, and harsh winter conditions, the county presents unique challenges that this team is specifically equipped to handle. The snow team utilizes snowmobiles, GPS technology, a Snow Cat, winter survival gear, and specialized training in avalanche rescue. The team responds to emergencies such as lost hikers, stranded motorists, injured snowmobilers, and other incidents where standard rescue operations are impossible due to snow and ice.
Beyond rescue missions, the Snow Team is deeply committed to educating the public on winter safety. They operate under extreme conditions such as sub-zero temperatures, whiteout blizzards, and avalanche risks. This requires physical endurance, technical expertise, and teamwork. Working closely with law enforcement, emergency services, and other rescue units, the team is on-call year-round. They are ready to tackle emergencies whenever they arise. Their efforts not only save lives but also provide peace of mind for those exploring Iron County’s breathtaking but unforgiving winter landscapes.
The specialty teams of Search and Rescue consist of members of Search and Rescue who want to specialize in a specific area of Search and Rescue. They still attend regular meetings, and help out with the other areas of Search and Rescue. Team members are the first to be called if their specialty team is needed. They volunteer their time and energy in ways that go above and beyond and we thank them for their service to their community. To donate to the team, please visit Support the Team.
