At 7:38 P.M. on Saturday, April 23, 22, Iron County Sherriff’s Search & Rescue (ICSSAR) Volunteers responded to an alert that a plane had crashed about five miles outside of Cedar City. ICSSAR was requested to assist with the recovery of 4 deceased individuals. 22 volunteers responded to the request. The team used 3 ATVs to transport IC. R volunteers, Sherriff Deputies, Cedar Police, Mortuary Staff, and the Cedar City Airport Manager to the scene. ICSSAR worked lock in step with the Iron County Sherriff Deputies, Cedar City Fire and Cedar City Police to ensure an efficient, cautious, and safe recovery effort. The deceased individuals were transported to the mortuary before 11pm. 2 ICSSAR volunteers stayed on scene to provide security until the National Transportation and Security Board could complete their investigation. The mission was completed in approximately four and half hours. The names of the deceased are awaiting identification by the medical examiner and notification of next of kin. Our hearts and prayers are with the family and friends of this somber and unfortunate airplane crash.
