Iron County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue K9 Team had a 2 day Training/Certification event last month on February 18th &19th. The training took place at the Three Peaks group site. The team achieved their goal of developing additional K9 teams to level 2 of our standards called “live.” This is the detection of 2 subjects in a 40 acre area assignment. The teams who completed this certification were Tim Dakin/Dixie, Nick Hansen/Juno, Matt Goodman/Ranger, Emilee/Koda and Kris Lindsey/Roxie. This means we now have 8 handlers and dogs that can be deployed on any live person air scent search that we are called to!
We want to thank their certifier and instructor Jeff Young who, in his letter of recommendation about our K9 team, stated they are “quite inspirational for other County SAR K9 teams in the area”.
These K9 and handler teams have put in a lot of work to achieve this level, and we wanted to recognize and congratulate them on this incredible achievement!
We also want to recognize and thank all the members of the K9 team, as well as members of ICSSAR who go and help them train when able. Your hard work is inspirational, thank you for all you do!
