The ICSSAR Snowmobile Team got together for their scheduled weekend snowmobile training. The conditions were perfect to give them an opportunity to work on riding skill techniques and getting snowmobiles unstuck in difficult and steep terrain. They also had blizzard conditions that allowed them to conduct navigation training during blizzard conditions.
These scenarios happen all the time in the backcountry. Make sure you know the proper techniques to safely navigate situations where your snowmobile becomes stuck or if the weather suddenly changes and you encounter whiteout conditions, being able to navigate to your point of origin. If you take the time to watch our training videos, you’ll notice one of our members became exerted after attempting to get the snowmobile unstuck. Thankfully this was a training environment with many team members on standby to assist. In everyday recreation, this may not be the situation. Be mindful of your health and limits and ALWAYS let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return and let them know you’ll check-in with them. This way if your “person” hasn’t heard from you, they can initiate an emergency response sooner rather than later.
Thank you to the snowmobile team members for keeping their skills sharp and for taking some cool shots and videos during the training.
