On Saturday, March 1, 2025, two individuals tried going over the mountain to Kolob Reservoir from Cedar and got stuck in snow drifts. There was no service where they were so they had to go find service to make a call out. Because of this, they were stranded for about 3 hours before Search and Rescue personnel arrived.

Search and Rescue received the call at approximately 19:50 hours. There were 5 Search and Rescue personnel and 1 Sheriff’s deputy who responded to the call. Because of the changing weather and snow conditions, they came equipped with 2 side by sides. One was equipped with tracks for the snow, and another without tracks if the roads and access permitted.

We were able to access the scene using the side by side without tracks. We found the individuals with shorts and flip-flops. Because they were not prepared, they were very cold. SAR was able to get the individuals safely down the mountain back to Cedar City without further incident. The call was concluded at approximately 22:00 hours.

Please plan and be prepared for the winter conditions even if it is 60 degrees in the valley, as it can be very cold in the higher elevations. For more information on how to stay safe, please visit our website here: https://icssar.net/winter-safety-and-preparedness/
