Cedar Breaks
Vehicle with occupants stuck in snow
At 8:12 P.M. on Wednesday November 2, 2022, Iron County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (ICSSAR) Volunteers received a call-out request specifically for the Snow Team to respond to a vehicle with four occupants stuck in the snow in Cedar Breaks. 7 ICSSAR snowmobile team specialist volunteers responded, along with 5 ICSSAR Volunteers. The team used the snowcat and four snowmobiles. As the team headed up SR14 they reported about 5” of snow and slick conditions. This was reported in the area of Woods Ranch and the S curve. The team unloaded and deployed at Websters Flat and Midway. Thankfully the team had excellent coordinates from the Dispatchers at the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, combined with the technology provided through the SARTOPO App we use, they were able to locate the stranded individuals. They loaded the individuals into the snowcat and transported them down the mountain without incident. They were transferred into our ICSSAR trucks and brought to a hotel for the night. The mission concluded at approximately 12:06 A.M. Please always check weather forecasts before heading into the mountains. The weather in the mountains can often be quite different than what is happening in town. If you must travel through higher terrains in the winter months, always have an emergency kit in your vehicle, along with extra water, blankets, and layers. We are thankful these individuals were able to reach us for assistance.
