Female injury to pelvis/hip
September 20, 2023
At 10:50 A.M. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the Iron County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (ICSSAR) volunteers were paged to respond to a report of a female hiker with an injury to her pelvis/hip area.
We had 7 Iron County Search and Rescue volunteers, 3 Iron County Sheriff’s Office personnel, 2 EMT’s with Gold Cross Ambulance and 3 flight crew members with the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The Gold Cross Ambulance EMT’s hiked to the patient and were able to provide initial aid to prepare her for extrication. DPS STAR 7 was able to hoist the patient out of the canyon and transport her to the waiting ambulance at the upper parking area off SR14 near mile marker 8. She was transported to Cedar City Hospital. We did receive a status on the patient that she sustained a fracture in her hip but was doing well.
The mission concluded at 1:00 P.M.
We would like to give a shout-out to the pilot of DPS STAR 7 for the impressive flying given the moderate winds we had in the area today.
We are thankful for the incredible interagency collaboration and communication.
