On November 7th at approximately 3:20pm we received a call out for a stranded motorist stuck in snow on Cedar Mountain. While on our way to the stranded vehicle, we were notified of a second stranded vehicle, which we found first. We were able to use a winch to get that vehicle to safety quickly.
The team continued to look for the original stranded vehicle. However, we were unable to locate it. Our team learned another motorist was able to help the first vehicle get unstuck before we arrived. Iron County Search and Rescue then continued up to Kolob Reservoir to be sure no other vehicles were stuck. The call concluded shortly after 7pm.
A total of 9 Search and Rescue team members, one Sheriff’s Deputy, four pickup trucks, six snowmobiles, and a side by side with tracks responded to the call.
We want to remind motorists again to please be careful and prepared for winter conditions. Be mindful especially when gaining elevation. Driving conditions in the winter carry risks unique to the season, and we want all to be as safe as possible. Please respect the mountains and the weather conditions they bring. We will always come to you if you need us, but please do your best to keep safe, and stock your vehicle with what you need to be able to keep comfortable until we are able to arrive. Also, always let someone know where you are going and when you expect you home.
