Kanarra Falls Rescue

Male Broken Arm

August 26, 2023

Kanarraville, Utah

At 1:58 P.M. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, the Iron County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (ICSSAR) volunteers and ropes team were paged to respond to a report of a male with a broken arm at Kanarra Falls.  The team was alerted that the patient was located beyond the second falls.  5 ICSSAR volunteers, 4 ICSSAR ropes team volunteers, 3 Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies and two clinicians with Gold Cross Ambulance. After the patient was stabilized, he was able to hike out on his own with the rotating assistance of our volunteers, Sheriff’s Deputies, and ambulance service staff.  The patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital for further evaluation and care.  The mission concluded at approximately 5pm.

We would also like to thank all the hikers we encountered on the trail today.  Everyone was patient and kind, providing our teams space to quickly respond to the patient and to safely assist him back to the ambulance.

We are thankful for the incredible interagency collaboration and communication.  We wish the patient a speedy recovery.
