Female Broken Wrist

July 22, 2023

At 12:33 P.M. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, Iron County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (ICSSAR) Volunteers responded to an alert of a female with a broken wrist in the Ashdown Gorge Wilderness.  Based on GPS Coordinates, she wasn’t far from mile marker 8 off SR14.  9 ICSSAR volunteers responded, along with 2 Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies and Gold Cross Ambulance. The team hiked from the slide area located off SR-14 down to the injured hiker.  She was about .6 miles from SR-14.  The Gold Cross Medical Crew stabilized her wrist.  She was able to hike out on her own with the assistance of the ambulance crew to help keep her stable.  We activated the ropes team (8 also responded) in the event she needed to be hoisted out and we had Utah Highway Patrol on standby for the use of the helicopter. The additional resources were not needed.  The mission concluded at approximately 3:00 P.M. It was a pleasure working in collaboration with the Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies and Gold Cross Ambulance.  We wish the patient a speedy recovery.
