On 11/16/2024, Iron County Search and Rescue received a call shortly after 11:00 p.m. concerning a stranded motorist. The subject was a 20 year old SUU College student from Arizona on Cedar Mountain. Coordinates from the individual showed he was directly East of Blowhard Mountain on the East side of Hwy 148.
Iron County Sheriff Search and Rescue responded with 4 volunteers, 2 Iron County Sheriff’s Deputies, 3 trucks, 4 snowmobiles, and 1 ATV with tracks to the area.
The stranded motorist was discovered to be approximately 400 feet East of Hwy 148 in roughly two feet of snow. He informed the rescuers that he wanted to take a ride up the mountain and drive around in the snow and found himself off the improved trail when he got stuck. Temperatures were in the single digits, but the driver had warm clothing and plenty of fuel.
Rescuers were able to help the driver get out and back down the mountain without further incident.
The call concluded shortly after 1:30 a.m. on 11/17/2024.
