At 6 P.M. Wednesday, September 13, 2023, the Iron County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (ICSSAR) Team had the opportunity to train with Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Helicopter Safety. We had 10 members of the ICSSAR Ropes Team, 2 volunteers from ICSSAR, 1 Officer with UHP and 3 Officers with DPS. The utilization of helicopters in SAR is tremendous. They assist us in the rapid extraction of critically injured patients, as well as to help us get visuals of our lost subjects. By conducting mock rescues, it helps to keep our volunteers’ skills sharp and to help build our relationships with our counterparts in DPS and UHP.
We would like to thank the Officers of UHP and DPS for taking the time out of their day to provide this training and for our volunteers who made time to attend the training.
