SAR Call Out 1/30/24 - 11/1/24

On 10/30/2024 Search and Rescue was dispatched to search for a missing Cedar City resident Eduardo Gutierrez-Nava. A team of 21 Search and Rescue volunteers joined in the search. Search efforts continued on October 31st with 17 people and 12 people November 1st which were unsuccessful. 

2 drones, 50 Search and Rescue personel, 4 ATVs, our small command center, and 2 trucks were used in the search efforts by Iron County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue across the three days. 2 dogs were used at various times as well. 

We were also assisted by DPS Star 9 helicopter and a SUU helicopter. A video of helicopters searching is available on our YouTube page. There were numerous volunteers from the public, Deputies of Iron County Sheriff’s Department and members of Cedar City Police Department who assisted throughout the search efforts. 

On November 2, a volunteer searcher located Eduardo’s remains and his motorcycle. It is believed that he lost control of the vehicle resulting in a fatal crash. Utah Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident. 

Our deepest condolences go to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy.
