National Volunteer Week
April 17, 2023
Iron County’s Sherriff Carpenter opened the ICSSAR Monday night team meeting with a special message. This week is National Volunteer Week. It’s a week dedicated to everyone who volunteers their time to provide a service to their community. Sheriff Carpenter shared a touching story of a time when a close friend of his found himself stranded up in the mountains snowed in. Unfortunately, Utah DOT was unable to reach him with their plows because the conditions were too dangerous. That’s when the ICSSAR team was dispatched and rescued the gentleman and his dogs. The conditions in the mountains turned much worse and prevented Utah DOT from plowing the area for another two days. That’s why we say to call us as soon as you realize you’re not in a safe situation. The sooner we get dispatched, the better the turnout.
Sheriff Carpenter continued by expressing his appreciation and speaking on behalf of the residents of Iron County for the team’s dedication to responding to emergencies to help save strangers in need.
Hats off to the members of ICSSAR, our national brother and sisters in the field of Search of Rescue and to everyone who takes a few hours of their personal time to volunteer service to their community and neighbors.
Please join us in thanking those nationally who volunteer their time.
Thank you, Sheriff Carpenter, for joining our meeting. We appreciate your kind words and support. Be Safe.
