Your Iron County Search and Rescue Team is always ready to respond day or night 24/7.

But how are we always ready to respond?  Good Question!

Many of our team members do more than just respond to a call out.  They spend countless hours conducting maintenance and repair work on our vehicles, equipment and the SAR building to ensure everything is reliably functioning, stocked and ready to go at a moment’s notice.

With these types of operations, individuals usually don’t pre-schedule a rescue with our team.  😉 The dispatch notification is always unexpected, so therefore, the volunteers must always be prepared to respond immediately.  We have our packs ready to grab and go.  Think about your home emergency plan (https://www.ready.gov/ ).  If you experienced a fire emergency in your home and had to evacuate within minutes, you wouldn’t have time to grab the most critical necessities from various locations of your home.  But if you planned for the emergency and had a “go-bag” ready to grab and go, you could safely and efficiently evacuate your home with the minimal necessary supplies.

First and foremost, when we get dispatched, whether it be during the morning, mid-day or late in the evening, once the mission is complete and we return to the SAR building, the vehicles still need to be refueled and restocked in preparation for the next call-out.  This can be extremely exhausting for the team, especially after complex rescues or missions that may carry over into the early morning hours, but to be prepared for the next unexpected call, it must be done.

Additionally, just like with your personal vehicle, our vehicles and equipment must also be maintained.  Just this year alone our volunteers have spent approximately 687 hours of their own time conducting maintenance and repairs on our vehicles, equipment, and the SAR building.  This ensures they are ready to deploy 24/7.

A tremendous thank you to Jim (aka Jimmers) Harmon and Paul Moen for their dedication to supporting the mission of the team, as well as other members of the team who have also contributed personal time to ensure the safety and well-being of our equipment.
