Vehicle with male occupant stuck in snow

At 11:39 P.M. on Sunday November 6, 2022, Iron County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (ICSSAR) Volunteers received a call-out request specifically for the Snow Team to respond to a vehicle stuck in the snow with one male occupant on HWY 14/SR 148. 7 ICSSAR snowmobile team specialist volunteers responded, along with the Iron County Sheriff’s Deputy, Cpl Hilleger. The team used two trucks to transport the snowcat and four snowmobiles. As the team headed up SR14 they discovered the vehicles would be able to make it all the way to the coordinates of where the vehicle was reported stuck, so they left the snowmobiles at the midway junction. The team was able to clear the vehicle from the snow drift and followed him down the mountain to ensure he was able to get out of the area safely. Please be aware our team’s priority is to rescue people, not vehicles. It is up to the responding team’s discretion if they are able to clear a vehicle from a precarious situation and feel comfortable with the occupant transporting the vehicle safely out of the area, otherwise, the team will ensure the safety of the person by transporting them and allowing them to coordinate retrieval of the vehicle when road conditions improve.
SR 148 was closed today due to hazardous driving conditions. We responded for two vehicles stuck in the snow within a 4-day window and with the impending snow moving in tonight it will only further impede safe travel.
